The aim of this course is to build on the GWO Basic First Aid training, providing participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to manage medical emergencies in remote and challenging environments, particularly within the wind energy industry. On completion, students will be able to demonstrate:
- Advanced first aid techniques, including the management of serious injuries and illnesses in remote locations.
- Correct use of advanced first aid equipment and application of medical teleconsultation support.
- The ability to assess and respond effectively when professional emergency services may be delayed.
- Practical and theoretical competence to apply skills in real-world scenarios on wind farms, turbines, and offshore structures.
- Correct order of management in emergencies, applying D-R-C-A-B-C and secondary surveys to advanced situations.
- Effective and safe use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in complex environments.
This course is physically and mentally demanding. To participate, you must be medically fit and capable of taking part in all activities.
Training is conducted in English, and an appropriate level of fluency is required.
Successful completion of all modules is required to pass – the course is not attendance based.
Prerequisites
- Valid photographic identification.
- 18 years and over.
Students will need to bring
- Appropriate climbing clothing.
- Clothing for all weather conditions.
- Safety footwear.
- PPE is provided by Hexis; should you wish to use your own, you must advise before the course starts. All personal PPE must pass inspection and be supported by certificates of conformity. Hexis reserves the right to refuse the use of any equipment that does not meet standards.
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded:
- GWO Enhanced First Aid certificate.
- GWO First Aid certificate.
